Not like my flame wrasse, Ive got a few and none has any black on fins, I know mine are jordani because I collected them in Hawaii and that is the only one from there.

Tongan Flame Wrasse

I agree.
Great score.

It is an undescribed species from Fiji and Tonga, and then 'Tonga Fairy' does not sound appropriate.

My friend and I will name it soon with several specimens from Tonga collected by Larry Sharron.

Dr Tanaka- I dont remember where I came across it at this point, but I heard it mentioned that this fish may be a subspecies of C. bathyphilus. Is there any truth to that, or is it just rumors and this is actually a valid seperate species?

Yes, it has been regarded a variant or sub-species of bathyphilus, but now we think that it is a valid spcies; an authority has already reviewed our MS. Wait for our publication.

How is this one related to the Vanuatu flame?

http://www.wonderfish.com.au/uploads/img4742666d37e66.jpg

This one is definitely a bathyphilus and it seems to me that the Hooded and Flame Fairies from Vanuatu are bathyphilus colour variants.

Damned nice too :-)

Cheers,

Correction: How is this the Tongan Flame related to the Vanuatu Flame (pictured below)?

http://www.wonderfish.com.au/uploads/img4742666d37e66.jpg

The Vanuatu Flame is definitely a bathyphilus (IMHO) and it seems to me that the Hooded and Flame Fairies from Vanuatu are bathyphilus colour variants. Is the Tongan a bathyphilus and if so, the same or similar to the Tongan?

My apologies for babbling in the previous post,
FW

Fairy Wrasler,

Yours 'was' a variant of bathyphilus, but now we regard it a subspecies of that. We are writing a paper on this, too. It comes from southern part of Vanuatu, and 'Hooded' comes from northern islands.

So I found a girlfriend for my Tongan Flame wrasse. Before i buy, i wanted to see what the chances are of them hitting it off. I would introduce the female via specimen container and obviously wait before adding her to the main tank.

Anyway, if there is a good chance it'll work out I'll go ahead and get her...if the odds are against it lemme know.

thanks!
