boiling foam pads in a canister filter?

Is there any benefit in boiling (boiling water) the foam pads of a canister filter from time to time?

The idea is to knock down that infamous nitrate factory??

Smart or stupid??

I have actually done this. (not really boiling them in the canister but on the stove):lol: It does kill the crap in the pad but you can't really get all the "stuff" out of them. Which in my opinion will end up decaying, hence turning into nitrate. If you could blow them out real good with fresh water and get them really clean, I think would be a way of extending the life of them.

What I used to do is wash them under a hose until the water come out clear again.
