I have an unknown coral (sps) that looks like a cross between a Larry Jackson and a Purple monster. At one point over a year ago it was placed on my starboard bottom and started to encrust. Since then I've moved the branching colony to another spot. The encrusted portion on the starboard continued to encrust over the past 6 months or so. Now I have shaved off the encrusting portion from the starboard. I have two "sheets" of it that are about 3" square. I'm wondering how do I get it to start to branch rather than continue to encrust.

thanks

When the coral is ready to shoot up branches from the encrusting portion it will. Some acros will go for quite a while encrusiting before they begin to branch....maybe you can encourage soemthing by getting some flow pointing at the encrusting portion from a distance so as not to harm the coral.
