I have been using one of those Tap Water Filters by aquarium pharmaceuticals for the last few years and have finally decided to get an RO/DI unit. I wanted you get some opinions on which one I should buy. I know this has been discussed before, but after skimming through the forum ("search" never seems to work) I couldn't find much info. I'm trying to spend as little as possible definetly not much more than $200. Here are the ones I have considered. Any info/opinions on these 3, and any other units would be greatly appreciated.

Water General, $125 shipped great price!!! read a few recommendations for this one

Typhoon III, around $200 shipped, more expensive but I have heard nothing but good things about it from MANY people

BFS 161 $175 shipped, read a few recommendations for this one as well

Stgay away from the water general.

The TIII is a nice unit. I have one and have been very happy with its performance. THE BFS unit is also good.

Melevsreef.com sells a nice unit as does thefilterguys.biz and purelyh20.com

Have you had a negative experience with the water general unit, or just heard bad things about it?

The unit is not well made.

It has horizontal DI chambers (they allow bypassing and channeling).

It uses the GE DESAL membrane which IS NOT better than a FILMTEC.

It uses a 100GPD membrane that is not as good as a 75 GPD Filmtec...

I could go on, but it has been covered dozens of times.

In a nutshell the advertising is misleading and the product is suspect. Spend a little more and get a quality system that is backed by quality customer service. You will be much better off in the long run.
