If I can find a canister filter with a clear housing, and point a light at it, can I make it a refugium. I've got a 24 gallon aquapod in a 55 gallon appartment, and space is at a premium. Suggestions?

It has been done before.

He uses it on a 2 gallon nano. He actually found submersible halides, but a canister with clear sides (like the magnum 350) wouldn't need them.

Sorry, not halides, halogens.

Wow, SWEET!

If I just get some of those little lights, rip out the guts of a canister filter, add some rock and a bit of chaeto, that should work, in your estimation, right?

I can't say for certain as I've never tried it, but Ninjafish (from the thread) had that 2 gallon nano up for quite some time with the modded canister. If you put the lights inside you'll have to make sure it is sealed well, but lights outside a clear canister would work just as well. Just make sure to keep the chaeto trimmed.

wouldnt the flow be too high thru a canster filter for a fuge? would he have too use something like a power head for the movement?

I have used something as small as a 5gal hex with a small powerhead pumping water from my sump into the fuge and then having a side bulkhead flow it back into the return of my sump. See my gallery for what I am using now. That condo unit cost $25 at an LFS... now its my refugium.
