Simple question: if you have a good fuge w/lots of macroalgae, do you ever have to clean the front and/or sides of your glass to eliminate the algae?

I clean film algae off of the front glass in the display about every three days.

Not sure who posted it but when you cannot read writing on a piece of paper looking longways through the tank it is time to clean the film from the glass. Something like that.

Before I put any cheato in my fuge, I had to clean the glass in the display every 2 hours while the Halides were on. Now that I have a small amount of cheato growing, I only clean the glass once a day or ever other day.

The cheato I got was only about the size of a fist and is growing.

Actually I think what I wrote above was in reference to water clarity. In any case, I do not believe that any tank is "algae free" no matter how good the fuge.

Just an opinion.--landlord

I don't think anyone expects or wants an algae free tank. The inverts in the tank need the algae for food.

The fuge just helps to manage the levels of algae.

Great everyone, thanks for your responses. I don't have a fuge right now and I have to clean the glass about every 3-4 days. When I get the 120g. going I will have a 58g. fuge and was just curious if I would see a differenc.

Just put some snails in the fuge and leave it alone completely. Often times they will breed in the fuge. I have personally bred trochus and cerith snails in my tank. I don't know if they bred in the display first and the babies just made it to the fuge, but nonetheless, I have lots of baby snails in my fuge.
