I got this crab free, the guy I got it from had it in his sump and has no idea what kind of crab it is. Now I want to add some corals and shrimp. He leaves my hermits alone but will he bother shrimp/coral?

Pictures are not so good. I cannot see the top of it. If it is hairy and mostly white with some pink and purple it is a Gorilla crab....bad crab!! It could also be a stone crab, not good for the tank if it is one. Place it in the sump unless you get a positive ID

Here is the best pick I could get of the top side.

From what I've heard around the forums, Crabs with Black claws aren't Reef Safe. Wait for someone with more experience than me though.

Its just a emerald crab, don't worry. Feed him well and no bothers. I have one that has been in my reef for almost a year now and no problems yet! Great cleaners IMO.

Yep, looks like an Emerald crab. If the entire body is green it's an emerald. If the body is green but the claws are black I would place it in the sump.

His pinchers look like they're made for scraping algae, round little tips. Looks safe to me.

Yeah as long as the pincers look like little "scoops" yah got nothing to worry about. Mine however has a taste for silversides, not often though, but I have seen him tear one apart.
