How on earth do you do away with the sucking, water getting sucked down the drain sound that this CPR overflow box emits?

It is driving me crazy! (it is surprising how loud it is)

There should be a plastic straw insert that goes into the strainer. Adjust it up or down until the gurgling/sucking sound goes away.

yes there is a piece of rigid airline tubing (plastic straw) but I assumed this was to anchor the line out of the aqualifter pump keeping the siphon from breaking!

Can you explain the plastic straw purpose to me? Is it specifically for that annoying sucking sound elimination?

There should be an "O RING" on the straw raise it up or down until the slurping sound goes away.

Glad it worked for you. Soft airline tubing fits over he nipple on the outside top of the box and to an airlifter pump. This is neccessary to remove the buildup of bubbles and prevent the syphon from beaking. The rigid tubing inside of the box is just to quiet the drain line.

I have one of those and i use a stockman overflow silencer. You can find it at Premium Aquatics. It works very well and it's easy to install
