why this skimmer is so expensive?

There are many factors that lead to the pricing of ATB products
The Euro dollar exchange rate the dollar is falling all the time if this keeps happening all products from europe will be much more expensive
The shipping, customs, duties, and fees
The rising cost of oil which causes acrylic prices to rise
The build quality and materials (only virgin acrylic not recycled) is used to make ATB products, all ATB skimmers are designed to perform and convenient for the user (can be taken completely apart for cleaning).

Don't forget Customer support :), the cost of standing behind your product.

many of the cheaper and even some more expensive skimmer companies have little to no customer support and all issues have to be dealt with by dealers, whom can basically do what they want

I just called ATB. There was no answer. I sent them an e-mail.
I guess I'll have to wait until Monday.

On Saturday when I saw name listed as the winner I was elated. I couldn’t wait to pick up the skimmer.

I got a hold of ATB skimmers and told them I am Alberto Sandoval the winner of the skimmer. Victor said they already gave the skimmer to another Alberto Sandoval from Foster City.
I told him he had to be kidding me. In that area of the San Francisco bay area almost all the Sandoval’s are related to me. In my whole life living in this area I have only met two Alberto Sandovals and one was my relative.
I had I friend, who works in laws enforcement, check for an Alberto Sandoval in Foster City. He confirmed there is no Alberto Sandoval in Foster City.

I asked Victor, how did he check if the person that picked up the skimmer was Alberto Sandoval. He said, he didn’t check the person’s ID. He said they communicated with him through the person’s e-mail address. I asked Victor, what was the e-mail address. He said albertosandoval@yahoo.com. I laughed when he gave me the generic e-mail address.

I did an internet search on this address and found out it belongs to a person in Mexico City Mexico.

I asked Victor, why you didn’t mention the winner picking up the skimmer on the thread. He said, “We are sponsors on many other reef websites. Reefcentral is not the only reef website”. He mentioned Reefland at this point. ATBskimmers are sponsors on Reefland, but I couldn’t find a thread about the skimmer raffle.

In the raffle thread, you can see they never mentioned the winner picking up the skimmer.

Either they got tricked by someone or they are trying to cheat me out of a skimmer.

I'm am sorry that you are not the only Alberto Sandavol in the country. Like I told you a few times before the drawing was done by AG in milpitas not by me. I went by email that was the only way i could separate the various similar names. If you had won I would of contacted you by email and given you the skimmer but I am sorry yours was not the winning email. Your name might be the same but once again i will tell you your email was not the winning email.

Victor, I didn't say I was only Alberto Sandoval in California. I bet I was the only Alberto Sandoval who entered the raffle.

No wonder the people at Aquatic Gallery seemed spooked when I called them. They put me on hold and then they hung up. I called again and the person who spoke to was the one who said the email address was albertosandoval@yahoo.com. It surprised me that he remembered the email address of the "top of his head".

I wouldn't be so confident Aquatic Gallery in Milpitas handled the raffle honestly.

Why don't you get a hold of the other Alberto Sandoval. You have his e-mail address. Having received a free skimmer I'm pretty sure he won't have a problem resolving this dispute.

To be honest with you I see your very unreasonable, First you accused me of cheating you out of a skimmer now its AG. But please remember the key is your email address is not the winning email. If you remember the time and date was posted on the raffle info if you wanted to be there you were welcomed too. I am sorry alberto but I can not give a skimmer to every Alberto Sandavol.

Alberto - I really think it likely ATB is above board on this. They sent an email to the winner and he picked up the skimmer. I think you should consider how unlikely a scam this would be.

Or think of it this way, if for some insane reason I wanted to pull some scam for the sole purpose of getting peoples email address, I would announce the winner of a name of someone who didnt even enter the raffle to avoid any questions.

Seriously, given the number of sites this raffle was announced on I think it highly likely that someone with the same name entered the raffle.

If you have any residual doubt, just email Alberto at yahoo and congradulate him and see what he says.

I think it inappropriate to question ATB's integrity, given the probability that you were not cheated. Reasonable doubt.....?

Anyway, ATB has provided excellent products and is actively building a good reputation for customer service. To have a fake raffle would just be counter-productive.
