Ok, I bought a mushroom rock the other day and was wondering what I was dealing with. I've also got a few other various I.Ds I'd like to know.

Now, I'm not sure what these are, I have three of them and this is all three in a collage. I used to have two, but a third one recently popped up. In reality they are all about an inch or two apart. They also retract when I poke at them.

And finally, I haven't got a clue what this thing is, there is two of them in my tank, this ones looking healthy the other one is a lot smaller and not looking to good right now. Some kind of marine plant life?

Thanks in advance!

Also note the last one does not sway or bend in the current. Now that I'm looking closer at it it looks kinda stony.

Oops, another thing I forgot.

That snail has like...polyp looking things attached to it. They are white in color (or lack of). Sorry for the bad quality picture on that one.

The pic below the numbered mushroom pics looks like majano anemones. If they are, they are a nuisance, multiply quickly, and can sting other corals. In my opinion, they look kinda cool, but left alone they can get out of hand in a hurry.

The bottom pic of the pickle-looking thing is a type of macro algae. I can't remember what it is called, but I have them in my tank. They can grow pretty fast but never get much longer than an inch to an inch and a half. They pop up in my tank every so often in certain areas, they grow for a while, then start turning white from the bottom up and die. I usually pull them out with forceps trying to get all of the base out. They never seem to hurt anything, I just try to keep them in check. They will pop up, hang out for a few weeks to months and then I won't see them again for a few weeks to months.

I don't have any right now, so I expect them to pop up any day now.:rolleye1:

I found some of these in a small patch on my two year old rock, and have been trying to kill them with no luck. If someone can id it would be great.

The bottom is an algea and I've heard you're very lucky if you get it. I've heard of of some people getting colonies of it.

These are anemones of some sort. I had one for over a year in my tank before it disappeared. They're pretty much harmless. I did try feeding it once, and it ate some mysis. Interesting little guys. But I wouldn't worry about them. I'd say they just add some character to the tank.

This is a type of macroalgae. Check out Melev's site: here's his algae ID page (http://www.melevsreef.com/id/algae.html) It's called Neomeris annulata. Harmless. Doesn't last long in many tanks. Grows somewhat quickly and tends to die out. Requires calcium. In large bunches can look pretty neat, but rarely gets to that point in an aquarium.

As for these polyps, I've seen plenty in my tanks, too. I think they're just tiny polyps or some other type of invert, like a tube worm of some kind. They don't seem to bother anything, and they don't move, so they're not anemones. I wouldn't worry about them unless they're prolific.

Hope that helps!

Are these good or bad..? I've heard of them, but know nothing about them.

Wow that colony of that macro algae on Melev's site looks awesome.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Anyone know what those mushrooms are?
