Hey guys, I have a Canon rebel xti and am looking to get a good macro lens and flash. It seems like everyone loves the Canon 100mm macro lens and I have read great things about it. For the flash I was looking at the 430ex but I was wondering if the 580ex II is worth the extra $$. Most of my pictures are outdoors, macros, and reef tanks. Any recommendations are welcome!:)

I have a 580EX and love it, but the 430 could probably suit your purposes just as well. The 580 can be both a master and a slave while the 430 can only be a slave. I believe the 580 also has about 1 stop of power (guide number) over the 430. This site provides a good summary of the differences: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/ex_speedlites.html

Good luck!

A full extra stop (double the light)? Those poor people's retinas! I'm sure it stops the action in their minds just as well as on the sensor! :D
