i have no idea how this thing installs, can someone help me out here? i mean, it's a piece of plastic and no grooves or anything.

It's funny, my snails occasionally bump into it or latch onto it causing it to fall. Damn snails!

Has anybody used silicone rubber to hold it on?

You could probably just use some super glue (cyanoacrylate). Its definitely a PITA when you have to water changes and stuff. Am hoping the coralline eventually holds it on ;)

I put a small amount of super glue gel on mine. Enough to hold it on but I can still pop it off if needed.

I drilled a small hole in the top center and inserted a black plastic screw from HD. the screw will fit tightly inbetween the holes in the grate. That way you can take it on & off and replace it very easily. get a screw with a flat head it looks better.
