Does anyone have experience with a lavender tang. I'm thinking of adding one, but would like to know others experience first.

The fish is basically the same as any other Acanthurus species. They closely resemble a Lieutenant, in both appearance and temperment. They are somewhat docile, but if there are other Acanthurus species in the tank, there could be some sparring. You will need to feed nori and other algae on a regular basis. They are fairly hardy also.

I was wondering if they are as prone to ich as many other tangs are.

They are one of the more hardy of the Acanthurus, much like the orange shoulder and Lieutenant that are more resistant to ich. It really will depend on diet; provide alot of nori, spectrum pellets, frozen Mysis. Also consider selcon, vita-chem, and/or garlic to supplement with the food and boost immunity.
I currently have 4 Acanthurus in my tank, and I have had really good success with them not getting ich by running the UV and ozone.
If you treat them right, then tangs won't get sick. Perhaps people should say that some tangs are more prone to die with idiot owners.
They need a pretty large tank. They are a good sized tang that can get 7-8 inches in captivity and will grow fast.
