Has anyone started a thread for a 33g or 40g LONG on RC? I've searched the site but nothing promising ever materialized. I love the look of these skinny tanks and want to start a build but no one seems to be running them.

I am about to fill my 33 long up.

I will post pics once I do. Its going to be my macro algae display/scooter blenny tank.

Btw, i think the 33g long is the ultimate nano tank. It is far superior to the 20g long. Its a 4ft tank, and with 4x54w quality T5 lamps, you could literally grow anything for cheap. You could get away with 2x54w for lower light stuff. Its long enough to include some non-nano fish.

I want to set up another 33 long as a bare bottom reef.

i was actually in the works of setting up a 33 long....had a stand and everything for it.....and a day before making the order for the tank....someone from my local club posted a 46bowfront for sale....and it was too much of a steal, that if i didnt take it, i would have regretted it......it was a full setup for a cheaper price than what a 33 would have costed......i still plan on setting up a 33 in my bedroom, but after i take down the 20

I am thinking about setting up a 33L (48x12x12). It would be great to see someone with one setup post of pics. I am really surprised more people don't have them for nanos.

I have a 33 long. Sometimes I wish I had a 55 instead for the added height, but I love everything else about it. And the lack of height isn't all that bad. With my light, I can have pretty much any coral I want. The light's only like 12 inches from the sandbed.

hey lat0403, can you post up a FTS?...i always like looking at new aquascaping ideas

The only FTS I have is really old. I'll try to remember to take a new one when I get home tonight.

thanks lat, what do you have in your tank?

lat0403
12/06/2007, 04:49 PM
Only a clownfish at the moment. I had a midas blenny, but he jumped the other day. I'm trying to decide what else to add.

Besides fish, two peppermint shrimp, a cleaner shrimp, emerald crab, snails and hermit crabs. As far as corals, ricordea, zoanthids, toadstool leather, monti caps, birdsnest, table acro. I think that's everything. I just started with SPS (besides the caps), so all I have are tiny frags.

lat0403, can you tell me some more about your setup (Skimmer, sump, etc...)? Also, I am considering T5's for mine but i am worried 4x54w would melt any LPS I want to keep.

definetly go for the 33 long or the 40L (48x12x16?)

Its cheaper bulb wise if you go t5 cause you get more watts for your money.;)

Here are some pictures. I wouldn't normally post pictures without making sure I've cleaned the tank up, but I didn't have time last night. Please excuse the algae. I'm having problems.

My next goal is to set up a closed loop so I can get rid of the koralias.

No sump. Right now it's 3 Koralia 1's and a Red Sea Prizm Deluxe skimmer. I know people don't like them, but I haven't had any problems with it. It's a little hard to get it set just right, though. And like I said, I'm hoping to have a closed loop set up by the end of the year. The light is a 48" Nova Extreme 4-54w T5 fixture. I thought it might be too much light for some things, but I've never had a problem with anything. I don't have any LPS, though.

nice tank leslie I really like the look of it. hows the evaporation and do you have any heating problems?

lat0403
12/07/2007, 10:35 AM
I have to add a gallon every couple of days. I don't have any heating problems during the summer, but I'm having some problems keeping the tank warm enough now. I keep my house at 70 and the heater I have was only bringing it to about 73. I threw another heater in (the one in the front) and it's helped some. I'm going to have to do something else though, because it still won't get above 76. It hasn't really even been that cold here yet.

I have a 33 long, bought a double tank stand with 55 on top and 33 on bottom so I had the 33 setup at my apartment on bottom because the stand was leaning, that kinda sucked because it was a pain to mess with, now I bought a house and it's on top on the stand. I originally had 130 pcs over it but now have two 150 watt hanging pendants that will be going over my 125 once I upgrade. It's softies and lps, there's a remora skimmer on back and a aquaclear hob until I buy another koralia. I only have old tank shots though, brand new computer and I haven't re-installed my camera yet so it looks a lot different now.

Lol, this is the only pic on the computer, obviously mid lighting upgrade, there's no hob filter on the left side anymore, replaced by koralia 2, plan is to do the same on the other side and get rid of the aquaclear, not using it as a fuge anymore since my cheato just dies off, might take off the remora too, there's only one fish in the tank right now since my clownfish has been banished.

The tank on page one isn't a 40 long.

The build thread is here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1060365&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

My pendants are around 16" off right now, I've been lowering an inch a week but keep forgetting, my favia started gaping and stressed for about a month so we've been going really slow. I'll try and get some better pics taken.
