I installed the Oceanic BioCube skimmer, and that little bugger is nice. I wasn't sure about it since it was an air stone skimmer but that little thing skimms very well. I think it is $60 or $70

here's a shot of the bubbles in the body, the second shot is of about 12 hrs of skimming, the third is after about 30 hrs.

notice the air valve i have on there that is almost in the closed position (2:00-2:30) to make the body totally fill with bubbles.
the pump and venturi are stock with the impellar mesh modded.

here's a couple pics of what it looks like on the tank, sorry no white balance...lol

Both EuroReef and Octopus are going to have in-tank nano skimmers that are supposed to rock. Check the ER sponsor forum for their discussion. When the Octo gets here to the US, I'll be getting one of those for my 10g

octopus will release a nano skimmer soon thats around $50. The octopus skimmers work really well for their price.

I also am looking for a nano skimmer for a 20 gallon. I have only read bad things about the Rio Nano, so proceed with caution - I read that it really doesn't skim well at all. Does anyone know the release date for the EuroReff Nano? I have an ER skimmer on my large tank and really like it .

seems like the ER Nano's are in beta testing right now. I haven't seen any updates to say anything else over in the EuroReef sponsor forum

I would say for the money you could get an oceanic biocube skimmer for $35.99, or a prizm skimmer for about $100.00. many people dont like them but I have had no problems with mine in the past 2 years I have had it. I did have to clean some calcium deposit from the air tubing about a year after I got it, and it is rated for up to 100 gallons..

well, whats your price range? thats one way to narrow it down. :D

I would like to stay under $130 if possible. Does anyone know when the octopus nano skimmer is being released as well as the euroreef nano?

Nano skimmer will revolutionise the Nano aquarium for all reefers.

This new skimmer is designed for Nano tanks up to 80L, and can be installed by hanging it inside the tank.

The Octopus Nano Skimmer uses the SP-500 5W pump and has a ΓΈ50 chamber.

Is the coralife needle wheel skimmer any good?

If your using it as a hob doesn't it seem kind of bulky but I guess if its in the back you cant see it. Its got mixed reviews.

i'd suggest a deltec mce300 or 600, if that's out of your budget the octo 100 with internal pump looks like a good design.

Octopus Nano Skimmer uses air stone?

dzeadow
12/13/2007, 08:46 AM
No, the octo nano (when it gets to the states) is actually a mini needlewheel pump. I think it's being sold under pacific coast import's model right now, if you go to customaquatics.com and there standard skimmers under 60g, it's listed as the Pacific Coast Nano Skimmer for $35. I'm under the impression that PCI is another importer of octopus as is CoralVue and SWC (Salt Water Concepts).

anyone have any expierence with the pacifc coast. I have a tunze nano, but the collection cup is too big for my lighting setup. I wonder how this one is.

I ended up going with the octopus BH 100. I guess we will see how it works for me

you'll be happy with that octo 100. After it breaks in it'll pull some nasty stuff. There's obviously a few hints for that skimmer over in the Octopus HOB thread in the lighting/filtration forum. One was to put a cap or cup w/ a wet bottom on the outlet to silence the return.

If your nano is any smaller than 25g, then an in-tank skimmer is going to take up way too much of the remaining space. Of those previously mentioned, which hob are better?

If you're trying to save money for a HOB, the Octopus 100 is great at like $109 or something. From others who have owned both, it out performs the BakPak and the Remora. They used to be on sale at some place for $89, but they've gone back up again. Great value.
