Thanks for happyface888, baohdoan, 3fins, FishAreFriends2, Jarob, pbukow and nanoDude magnified my poor tank.

I began to keep a nano marine tank from 2 years before. As I stay in Shanghai, I have no chance to learn how to keep a reef tank. Fortunately, when I browsed the local salt water BBS, my teacher appeared. He is from RC, ID is ¡°clownnut¡±. In last 2 years, he taught me a lot of knowledges about saltwater.
I should say ¡°thanks¡± for him here and continue to post the pics of my tank.

The blue one
Blue hippo tang.

I don't see the significant problem with him keeping the tang in the tank.. as of now. He will have to be removed to a bigger tank down the road, but i think he just fine where he is. You have a very beautiful tank , great job.

The blue and yellow tang in this picture is commonly called a Hippo Tang. Some people are kind of crazy about tank limits for tangs around here :).

limitedslip
12/06/2007, 11:26 PM
I wouldnt say people are crazy about that, I think people go crazy when people put tangs in nanos, i mean, when the hippo blue tang hits 7 to 8 inches in length, itll be bigger than most nanos ><. A nano is defineatly a temporary home for one, but not a permanant home.

nice looking tank btw.

Thanks for m1enbo1, 3fins, nanoDude and limitedslip telling me.

i think the blue tang is not suitable for my small tank now.
i plan to upgrade my tank to 300L next month, wish the blue will feel better when enter into the new tank.

Great looking tank! Great choice of live stock. Im so tired of seeing sps only tanks, or lps only tanks. I think the key to a great reef tank is diversity, which you have. LPS, softies, SPS, non photosynthetic etc.
Well done!

I have seen those white anemones on some websites/LFS, and they have been labelled as 'japanese anemones'. I dont know too much more about them, sorry!

hi chelskisw!
i'm so glad to get your praises, thanks a lot!

i agree with your opinion that "the key to a great reef tank is diversity".

in order to keeping non photosynthetic, i have to add a lot of planktons and zooplexs. i use kent, elose, DT etc, but which has also includes a lot of organic components.
to remove these organic components, now i set up a algae tank use Miracle Mud.i hope it can help me build a low NO3&PO4 environment.

hey pete!

I'm chinese as well, my dad actually has an civil engineering business and is staying in shanghai training people! maybe i will come see your tank someday! it is beautiful.

I live in tampa, and i only have a 30 gallon now, i used to have 125 gal.

How are prices in Shanghai? The purple and yellow fish is called a royal gramma.

Very nice tank.

Hey Nelson!
So glad to meet Chinese here!
You are welcome to see my tank whenever!

In Shanghai, China, the prices for corals and salt fishes are really cheap compare with what in EURO or USA. But the famous brands of auqa-equipments' prices are higher; and we also have no chances to get a lot of top-brand products. Most of people here are using the equipments which made in china because of the prices.

i'd like to know why you reduced the size of your tank from 125 gal to 30 gal? you know, all the people wanna keep a bigger tank~

Hey pete,

Oh, you're too kind. i actually will be going to see my father soon. I dont know when though. wow, maybe when i go to china i will bring some corals back with me.

I got a smaller tank, because my 125 gal reef tank was fully stocked but i went on a hiking trip up north and the power went out while i was gone. My friend didn't save the tank in time because it happened late at night. Everything died except one fish and one shrimp. I still have the shrimp but sold the fish. I don't have the money to get a big tank again, so i have a 30 gallon, but it is starting to look good again.

You're english is good by the way.

I'm actually majoring in international business :)

I will PM you my Shanghai's mobile phone number. Please call me back whenever you arrived in Shanghai.

Power always be the killer for marin tanks. My best friend's tank was failed several days ago since the power went out. And nobody at his home on that day. I'm now considering whether shall i add an UPS+accumulator or not...

those two fish are gobies, they are commonly called flaming prawn or fire gobies in the US, but names might be different in other parts of the world. they are a bit rare, and usually are VERY expensive.

But i bought it in a low prices, less than $20.
You know, the salt water fish in China is alway cheaper than what in US or Euro.:smokin:

hi scottallert,
Thanks for your kind words.

I have changed 250W MH to 400W MH.
The colour temperature of the bulb is 14000K. And now, I think it is a little bit too bright for some yumas and rics which in the bottom of tank. Maybe it is good for the softies if I change to use Reeflux 12KK.

Hi Novacaine,

These zoo spent me 2 years on collecting.
And they grow very fast, i always make frags and share to my friends.

But after I changed the MH from 250W to 400W, all zoos do not as good as before, and the colour seems weak.
SPS grows faster than before after changed to 400W.

I'd like to know which reasons lead the zoos turn to weak.
Maybe my organic substance not as much as before, maybe i need to add some amino acid for my softies.
I will try and report here.:o

Your 400 watt lighting may be too much for your zoo's.

I would either move the 400 watt lighting farther away from your water surface, or switch back to your 250 lighting.

Thanks zma21,
In past, I ran 250W MH with 14kk, and now I changed to 400W 14kk. I also wanna hang up the light, but there have no space to do that.

I should say, after improve the light, all SPS become more colourful, and zoo does not as good as before.
I'm now want to try changing the bulb from 14kk to 20kk, or use reeflux 12kk. Do you think i should switch back to the 250W or ran 400W as 20kk colour temperature?

USA is my dream place to bulid a reef tank.
Most rare coral can be found there~:o

All my corals are bought in Shanghai, and there several good LFS there.
Some LFS has firsthand resources of corals and fishs from Indonesia.

Thanks joel,
I also love the new pics.
Since i used to run 20kk bulb, the pics are too blue.
And now i changed to 14kk, more white and more bright.

In future, I'd like to try Radium 20kk 400W SE, but I have no chance to get it in China market currently.:o

Hi akopley,
Thanks a lot for your advise.
The fish in last pic is Tang, not angel.
Since my tank has no Tang, different kinds of algae have appeared. I plan to introduce a Tang (last pic) to eat these algaes.
Wish this small tang can help~

So surprise to me~

Yes, maybe some corals here are rare for you.
But with the same, some famous aqua equipments are never appeared in our market. And the price for some USA-made aqua equipments are really high compare which which in USA market.

I also wanna share my frags to my friends who stay in USA.
But it is very difficult for me to ship the corals from Shanghai to oversea countries since China customs have very difficult and complex steps for corals export.

Hi Felix,

Sorry to reply late.
For my experiences, Strontium can help to improve growth.
And after dose Strontium, CA and KH consumes quicker than before.

I do water change every week for 10% with TM proreef salt.
Of course, mixed with RO water.

More pics will post at once!

Yes, this gonipora is quite special, I love it too.

For my current tank, it is far more bigger than 80litres.
The dimension for display tank is: 80cm*66cm*60cm(height), water level is 58cm.

Hi dcook,

My 2 baby regals have been moved out since they ate my brain corals(mirco/acan/trumpet/cynarina/scolymia).
It spent me and my friend 12 hours to do that and put my rockscape back to display tank.:sad2:
If possible, I will try them again. I mean if LFS has new baby regals.

Currently I have 10 fishs:
2 clownfish
2 dispar anthias
1 six line wrasse
1 Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse
1 firefish,helfrichi
1 Flame Cardinal
1 Bristletooth Tomini Tang

BUT, if you ever get any in-store photos of fish street, I'd love to see them! Do you ever come across any really crazy scolymias over there, like the tye-dye or rainbow ones?

Lastly, pictures of your plate collection would be sweet! :D

Hi munkyboy,

Glad you like it, thanks.

And now, I have upgraded to 80gallon.

Hi kcballer,

Since the geographical advantage, Yumas are common corals in Shanghai and Hongkong market.
But some species of Yumas are difficult to keep.
And I just attend 50% of survival probability.

Hi jackson,

Thanks for your very generous remark.
I dose:
TM BIO-CALCIUM everyday.
KENT iodide 1ml/perday.
TM BIO-MAGNESIUM once a week.
Brightwell Potassium when need.

I do 10% water change by TM pro-reef salt mix with RO water.
Clean the tank glass when change the water.
Feed fish 2 time a day by SURE food.
I don't use carbon.
I don't dose organic carbon resources.

For your references!
Regards!
Pete

I like the pink acans you have, also your sun polyp. All the FTS are really nice too.

Hey Pete... I'm not sure if it's just my internet browser, but a lot of your images won't load and I'm very anxious to see them. If it's at all possible, can you try uploading via Photobucket.com, seems to work a bit better. Thanks! :) -Jon
