I have a 10 gal LPS and zoa tank. My protein skimmer only pulls out a weak colored skimmate. I was thinking of taking it off and replacing it with another powerhead since I need more flow and the skimmer sucks anyway. I am pretty good at keeping up with the water changes. Is this a bad idea? Since a 10 gal tank is limited on space, I would rather not have an extra tube in the tank if it is not needed.

I would say that you should be okay. If you keep up on the water changes and have really good flow, you should be fine. I ran my 55g for two years without a skimmer and it did just fine.

I say go for it - just don't add any fish and you'll be fine.

your tank looks good, I keep all my tanks skimmerless, the largest being AP 24, and with 2.5g WC weekly and an AC fuge, Firm believer, love them I' do well,

I have kept a 10g, with a MJ 600 and AC 70 Fuge, Did 1g Weekly WC's and never had a problem with NO3 NO2 or PO4, worked wonders, kept a mixed reef and had 1 clown

Yeah, I don't want any more fish than the red headed goby that is already in there. Thank you everyone, you helped me make up my mind.

I just got rid of my skimmer and am running 2 ac fuge's also. I have seen the results and am convinced that it is a good way to go. I have 4 fish and 3 inverts. My numbers have improved since adding the fuges and removing the skimmer.

Over time the fuge will produce pods and help feed your corals.

I would add a ac 50 and convert it to a fuge, you get decent flow from it also.
