Need new skimmer

Looking at buying good skimmer for current 54g but need it to easily handle eventual 125. Medium stocked.

Should I go ahead and put in order for Octo extreme? or is there another skimmer for same price range that works the same?

Oh yeah, current skimmer is broke, so this is sort of emergency to get a new one.

How do their other skimmer compare performance wize? Also, which version would be best to cover but size tanks.
I would prefer not being the guinea pig.

First it depends on which extreme your talking about. If your talking the coralvue extreme, its not much better than a stock octo thats out right now. If your talkin about teh swc extreme from marinesolutions with the sicce pump, thats the one you want, the BM similar skimmer. It will pull 44-50scfh stock and they are 275, 325 and 475 bux, fairly cheap for what you get. Especaily for the 250model which is going to pull 88-100scfh! I'm guessing the extreme 200 would work great for a 125 but not to great for a 54g as thats to small. You may want to go with the 160 model instead. It should be able to handle both

Wallen, I don't know anything about the new swc extremes or if they perform similar to the BM skimmers. But if you were to get a BM skimmer the model that best fits your situation is the BM160. In the BM line, the BM200 would be too much for now and later. So, if the swc extreme is similar, you would get the model 160. HTH

I'm in the same boat. I narrowed my choices between Xtreme 160 or get a DAS EX-1. What do you guys think?

I have a 60 gal pred tank w. a volitan, dogface puffer, clown and 2 damsels. I have a Prizm delux but am not overly pleased-bubbles and noisy. I have had it for a while and it does do the job but am considering an upgrade. I do need a hang on....That Pet Place is having a sale and I can get a Berlin hang on -23"-w. pump for $ 160.00. Any opinions?? When I was in sales in this industry, I used to be of the opinion that Berlin's were overpriced for their performance. If not the Berlin, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. The fish are small and I know will outgrow the tank sooner than later.

I have a DAS EX2 on my BB 90. It's a good skimmer, super small bubble size. I'm always tinkering with skimmers and decided to put my Beckett skimmer (Austin Oceans 2000) up against it in the same system. Much to my dismay (I was hoping the EX2 would win) the Beckett has completely destroyed the DAS in terms of skimming. Since lighting off the Beckett the DAS has produced almost no skimmate and it looks like water. I'll have to try one these Extreme skimmers soon but so far every other skimmer I've tried just doesn't stack up to a Beckett. Yes the Beckett uses twice as much electricity but it works dammit!
