I'm getting ready to replumb my over the top closed loop in which I use an Ocean's Motion.

I was wondering if anyone that uses one knows if I can position the unit sideways and still have it function efficiently. I currently have it positioned upright with all of the piping coming out horizontally. I was wondering if it'd work to turn the unit sideways and bring the pipe out vertically.

Thanks

I don't think you can but I would contact Paul at Ocean Motions to be sure.

Yes it will work positioned like you describe. I did it with my old tank. I used 45s coming up and out of the unit in order to not have a 90degree angle which makes more head loss.

It'll work.

Thanks guys. I was hoping for a quick answer here before having to call and ask Paul. Those guys stay pretty busy there.

Thanks for the comments. One other question. I was planning on coming up out of my pump return to a 90 degree angle into the OM. Will this result in significant headloss. The purpose for this is to try and keep everything close to the back of my tank so there's more room to work as well as hiding as much of the plumbing work as possible for a bit of a cleaner look.

Thanks again.

For every 90 degree angle you need to just add 1 foot to your head loss calculation.
