this is my fastest growing coral at the moment

Birdsnest: yellow base green polyps at the tips with pink polyps at the base

TWO WEEKS AGO: when i bought it..

TODAY...i have no idea how to time stamp...but there is a thread of mine from two weeks ago with that pic..

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l46/crazyoldcougar/IMG_4480.jpg

i am amazed it must have grown 8 or so new tips...and is encrusting onto the crazy glue already..it seems that it is turning to all green polyps now too...i guess it was slightly bleached before from lack of light in the dealers frag tank...where i found it sitting under the rack in the sand..

this is going to be a full grown fraggin machine in a month or so..

Nice! can you list a little about your lights, water changes, dosing, and filtration?

NRW, I see you're dosing quite a bit. What are you testing for?

just because its cheap doesn't mean its crappy, get a good air pump and these things can really rip.

i have a tetra whisper60 pushing loads of air into it with a limewood airstone..i dont have any literature that claims the LPH or air but it is rated for a 60 gallon tank..and i can only sit the thing abotu 3" into the water or it overflows..and that is with the extension tube on it..

i should mention first that i use IO salt...mine tests out at a SG of 1.026 to contain
cal320ppm, alk190ppm~11dkh and mag of about 1100ppm

i test for magnesium once a week (1400ish)
i test calcuim pretty much every three days (440ish)
i test Alk with the calcuim every three days as well (190-200ish)
SG once a week with a refractometer (1.026)
temperature is now digital and view it all day long (78.9-80.6)
(on a side note i have discovered my heater is kinda faulty)
ph once a week
nitrate once a month(<10ppm)
ammonia and nitrite...i dont test anymore..unless i see a problem then i run a full spectrum of tests..
i will be buying a phosphate test this week as i have started battling a little bit of hair algae...(might be something to do with the heat too though)

back to the heater thing...i used to set it at 77* so my tank would never go below that...all i had was one of those glass floating thermometers and i would notice the temps raising to about 86* or so (this had me really concerned)..look in the sump and the stupid heater is still on too...so i went and bought a digital thermometer to verify the temps though i could tell from touch the water was warmer then it should have been so i turned the heater to 73* and then the tank would top out at 83* (digi) now my heater is set to 71* (absolute lowest setting) and my tank has not gotten over 80.6 and not gone below 78.9...so i much happier about that...i think that may have been stressing out some of the habitants...so i will see in the next week or so if there are any improvements..(mostly just my zoos)

What digital thermometer are you using? The majority of our hobby grade digital thermometers are highly incaccurate and this has been documented numerous times on RC - misreadings in excess of +/- 5 degrees are quite common. So I wouldn't assume the new thermometer is actually giving you the real temperature of your tank. But in the end the best indicator is the health of your livestock so there's something to be said for things improving.

Weird, I'm using the same pump the skimmer is set at the water line marked on the body and I have no problems with it. It pushes out tons of dark nasty skimmate. I'm puzzled by your result.

yeah if i lower the skimmer down to the line it does nothing but blow the top off and send water gushing everywhere..perhaps my skimmer is broke, or missing a piece.(i did buy it used)...can you post a pic of yours??

Some skimmers are very sensitive (like the ASMs) and just putting your hand in the tank will stop the bubbles from pushing upward.

yeah...if i put my hand in the tank or ove the skimmer it stops bubbling..

This is over about a month I believe.. specs etc in my thread.

I'll try and get some growth shots of other corals. Though it's been roughed up a bit, my birdsnest is growing well (yet is still not pink as advertised...) as are my softies.

Yeah It loves to wave its polyps around. I'm excited for it to keep growing.

I got it from http://www.fragalot.ca/ They're based in Guelph and I've had a good time dealing with them to date.

I think it was the "Fiji Red Acropora". Though, the site has changed since I ordered this so I'm not positive about that one...
