I currently just have the stock JBJ 24g NC dx pc lights on my tank. thinking about upgrading to the HQI upgraded hood. is there a huge difference in lighting? would you guys recommend it? as for heat, would i have to buy a chiller?

Yes u would need a chiller with the close hood.

you can go with a sunpod and take the hood off. i have a sunpod HQi on my 12g. aquapod, and i love it .

You may not have to get a chiller.

There are tons of people that have the MH hood and their tanks never reach 80*.

really zama21? that sounds good. the only thing is my current tank was running hot at first, now its at 77. i guess i can just crank up the A/C since i have my own unit in my room

I'm not saying that you won't need a chiller for certain, i'm just stating that for a lot of people the chiller fans carry the heat load enough to save them some money.

are there fans you can upgrade to to lower the heat under the hood?

There is also a HOB chiller i saw somewhere...$80?

It's for nano aquariums. Worth a look.

I saw one like that, except it hung on the back.

Nanocustoms has great stuff, so i'm confident that chiller would do the job.
