Is it ok to put a Vortech in an overflow?

I thought there was a display at MACNA with them in a center overflow on a Zero Edge tank.

The dry side must stay dry. Aside from that as long as the pin spacer is set correctly you should be able to put it anywhere.

Hi BenjieC-

The boxes you saw at MACNA were all dry overflows. There was no water actually overflowing into any of them.

I disagree, there are many instances of dry center overflows used to conceal electrical wires, return piping, etc. It is a good way to hide cords for island tanks! It would have been easy to see if the overflow was an actual overflow was long as the top of the tank was open, which I dont know if it was since I wasn't there.

Yes, the tank is open because it is a zero-edge tank. Water overflows the walls of the tank.

Look at the center of the tank and you'll see a black box that is completely submerged. The box is open only from beneath, and that is where the dry side of the motor is located. The wet end is inside the display.

There were three other tanks set up, and here's one that had a dry internal compartment specifically to keep the pump dry. It is not an overflow, it is a way to hide the pump and keep it within the four walls of the tank.
