Greeting West Coast Reefers

I wanted to let you guys know that The Orlando Reef Caretakers Association (ORCA) will be holding it's first quarterly Frag Auction/Event on the last Saturday of the month of January 2008.

We used to have a frag event at every meeting. This went on for many years. However, we have decided to mix up our monthly meetings a little go to a quaterly Frag Event. We will have a total of (4) Four Frag Events a year.

For those that were able to visit Orlando this year for the SRC, you had a chance to see how we run our Frag Event (Auction). We have a lot of fun and move through a lot of corals. Some rare and some common.

I'd like to extend an invitation to all of you in Tampa to come join us in January for what promises to be a huge and fun event. Does this sound remotely interesting to you guys..? Does anyone think they'll be able to make it..?

I just wanted to throw out a tickler to you guys. Let me know what you think.

As always, best regards,

Matt Kantz
ORCA President 2007-2008

Matt,
Will this be open for everyone to sell, or only ORCA members? Also, do you have a location and time set?

Can I assume that the next one will be at the end of April?
I'm trying to schedule my QT.

As far as selling corals, we are still working through the details. Currently at our frag events, you must be a member of ORCA to sell. However, for these quarterly events we will probably be opening up the opportunity for outsiders to sell also. When a frag is sold, 50% goes to the seller and %50 goes to the club.

Yes Mike, January, April, July and October are Frag event months. We are really going to be pushing to make this a HUGE event. 200 or more corals.

Frags are entered into the event by first having all frags photgraphed prior to the day of the event. Photo's are submitted to the club Frag Director. he then assigns a number and the coral(s) are then entered into the master listing. The day of the event, folks bring the corals they'll be auctioning and they stay in their bags. No community tanks etc.

As we near the event, a listing of the rules and guidlines will be posted. If you would like, email me at president@o-r-c-a.com for more details.

Our auctions are really amazing. Lot's of fun and great fellowship.

Thanks Matt. I'm going to try to make it in April. I will have fish in the QT at the end of January, so I'll miss that one.
