I think any reef tank with a SB cant thrive without one.

Yes I agree. My diamond goby goes the work on my sand bed. I sifts all over the tank.

They will need atleast a 3 inch sand bed to start, they also prefer a small grain size sand for ther gills so they can pass the sand thru. Make sure you have your rockwork very stabile as they will burrow and make homes under your liverock. You dont want the rock to topple and come crashing down and even kill them.

They will eat pods and life in the sandbed, as well as the prepard foods such as mysis shrimp, flake,and anything else you can throw at them. Mine used to love the sinking pellets.
You will also want to keep a tight fitted lid on the tank since when startled they will jump. If you have eggcrate you will have to get glass tops or you can risk finding one on the carpet.
