Has anyone used a siphon overflow box from Lifereef or a similar company with the Red Sea Max? Anyone been in touch with the company about this idea? It looks like you would have to modify the cover but that seems like a pretty simple task.

Well, as an update, I went ahead and did this myself. Modded the back of the RSM and bought a Lifereef Siphon Overflow. Works like a charm. If anyone is interested, I will post pictures.

Ask and ye shall receive. I custom built the sump/fuge myself. It hold about 20 gallons.

I also removed the skimmer that came with the RSM.

Nice mod, i had thought about a sump for my rsm, but its working fine so far how it is, maybe in the future.

What are the actual dimensions of the LifeReef on the inside of the tank?

how did you pipe this? I see the outtake from the tank coming down to a T... are you sending the water to two different places and then back up through tubbing? What is at the end of our outtake tube from your sump?

I used a CPR90 overflow on mine

I used vinyl tubing for all the plumbing. 3/4 inch from the overflow to the tank. It doesn't go to a T, that is just a ball valve in case I want to stop the flow for some reason but keep pumps running elsewhere. There is nothing at the end of the outtake tube in the sump. It flows freely into the sump. I'm thinking about adding a bubble tower like Melev's site suggests but I'm having no issues with bubbles so I may not fix whats not broken.

Unsure. I used the Nano prefilter box that Lifereef suggests for nano's on their website. I believe it is 3x4. Works like a charm though, great products.

Why dont you just drill the back? No cutting the hood. No siphon loss. Is it because the back is tempered?

When I was trying to determine whether to drill the back glass or use an overflow I was getting conflicting answers.

The overflow was a simple install. The cutting is all done to the plastic panel below the hood. The overflow sits low enough not to interfer with opening the hood.

According to Red Sea the back glass is tempered. Even if it wasn't, I don't know that I would trust myself to do it. I'm not too worried about siphon loss, I get great flow and actually have throttled back my return pump to decrease the flow. According to Lifereef, the nano prefilter can handle 5-700 GPH. Much more than I need.

OK...just wondering, makes sense.
