Hi fellow reefers
Planning to introduce a single 250W MH using 20000ºK bulb to my tank. Will the Zoanthids look nice without supplementary T5?
Thanks for your help :)

Actinics, IMO, just add to the pleaseure of looking at Zoas. I also run 20k helios and when they are just on, I still love looking at them.
My supplementation is actually an ATI aquablue (12K) and ATI actinic+ (22K). I did not want my tank to be so blue at night when I am sitting in front of it at the end of the day.

Glad to hear that 20K works well for Zoas... can't wait to install the fixture :)

I also run the helios 20k 250 DE x2 as well. good color with no actinic

i run mine with straight 10k no supplements.
the best zoas IMO still look sweet without exaggerated colors.
so it all comes down to preference and if you like a really blue tank or not

I do not have a blue tank but I can't see through sides and it might appear blue for those that have a see through tank. My sand is very white and not blue, so that is my only gauge, other than the corals look rather nice.

i wasnt saying anything personally geoxman.......reading back I can see how it might have been taken that way. sorry fo that, its not how i meant it
I only meant to say that color is a preference and nice corals certainly dont need a ton of actinics or blue to look sweet.
its all preference and there are sweet tanks and corals under any light you choose.....well almost ANY

Hey no problem here my man! It is all good and us zoa guys need to help each other out, however that may be. You do have some good looking zoanthids in the sellers forum-very healthy stuff with great color.

Je®vis, just a footnote, the same 20 K bulb in one tank will not always look or illuminate the same in another tank. Often overlooked, the ballast plays a great role in also determining how the bulb will look on your tank.
Could everyone share what ballast the are using and was there a burn in period before you achieved the desired coloration you now have?

I use a 250w icecap w/ an XM 20k bulb, Zoas look great. I have wondered what extra astinics would look like but end up spending all my cash on more zoas and not on equipment.
