hi all, i am upgrading the lighting on my 12g nanocube to a 70w sunpod this weekend. livestock is listed below:

frogspawn
small zoa rock (less than 10 polyps)
5 turbo snails
3 scarlet hermits
1 blood/fire shrimp

with my 70w, that gives me 5.83w per gallon...is this sufficient for sps? what about a nano-clam? can i keep like a tridacna or maxima or is the light not strong enough?

What kind of lighting is it? PC? Halide? Watts per gallon isnt really all that useful.

It's halide (Sunpod is a Metal Halide Fixture).

I am setting up the same tank and it will be all SPS however lighting is one third of the key with SPS, Flow and Water Chemistry are just as vital.

i have a 12 gallon with the 70w, and i am keeping sps that is thriving, and has excellent growth. I have not kept a clam but the person who had the tank before me did.

I didn't know MH sunpods came smaller than 150w, that is why I asked. You can keep anything under that light, including acros and clams.

yeah watts per gallon is how i measured before, its just the output that counts. if you plan on softies the ni would get a 14,000k-20,000k bulb for that halide. It will be sufficient. Not sure weather you wanna go 150 eventually, but definately a good stock selection. I was thinking of getting frogspawn, i think there relatively like torch coral, i got 2 torches under 250w hqi and theyre doin good.

sorry, regarding the 96w pc, i only heard oddysea could be dangerous, and according to Jebo (this crappy lighting brand) 55w is safer than 65w, so im assuming without proper ventillation 96 watt lights can be just as dangerous. Just a personal opinion, i wanna swap out my PC's with t5's because pc's dont give out as much output regarding the depth of the tank.
