I have a 150 gallon tank with a sump in the basement. Before my Outer Orbit lighting system came it stayed at about 68 degrees. When the lights are on it is around 74 degrees when they are on and 72 degrees when off.. My question is how many heaters would I need to bump it up to 77 degrees and keep it there throughout the night.

I have about 180 gals in the total water column. I use a 250 watt heater to maintain a temp of 79 degrees. I would use two of them to bring the temp up and then one should be fine to maintain.

Are you running them in the tank or the sump?

I was originally thinking of getting two 100 Watt ones to put in the tank but if I can put a 250 in the sump that would be better probably.

run them in the sump--for no other reason that is one less thing hanging on the edge of the tank.

If your flow is excellent in the tank then it is not going to make a difference as far as heat circulation.
