Nice camera work, and great corals!

Is that second blue tipped white bodied coral different from the first? It looks a lot like an "Ice Blue Echinata".

Keep it up!

They are completely different. I think the one you are referring to is in picture #8 which I think is an A.lokani. The other (2nd picture) I believe is an A.aculeus unless you are talking about the A.tenuis in the 5th picture. Anyway, not sure if I really answered your question but thanks for looking.:)

I posted a couple of these in the Monti thread so sorry for any repeats but here are a few anyway.
Two different versions of what I think is M.capitata and a M.danae.

I am sure we can work something out. Shoot me a pm to make arrangements.

Thanks Joe, I used to think it was a A.granulosa but now I am leening toward A.lokani. Now if I could only get rid of all that darn xenia growing wild.
I had and was very successful in growing a coral that looked exactly like this. Do you know it's linage?
I got a frag of it from a local reefer who told me it was an LE when he got it but I don't know from who or where. I think it is an A.lovelli but not positive.

There are so many great tanks on RC that I feel kind of relunctant to show mine. In my opinion it has a long way to go before it's ready for "prime time" but perhaps someday.

I assume you're refferring to the Lokani picture. That was an older photo and they now are history. I obviously didn't dip long enough at some point and had a few sneek into my reef. The tank was treated and there is no sign of them these days. Thanks for looking so close.;)

onad75 OLDUDE your tank is so nice.. how long its been running?
Thank you, It has been running for a little over 3 years but I really started to acropora in July 2005. It is a fairly young tank so it still has a way to go.

No more pictures!!!! You're making me depressed by the great looking tank you have. No actually keep the pictures coming.

I do have a couple of questions for you.

1. Do you think much of your tanks success is due to the Polyp Lab products? I think it is a system similar to Prodibio products.

2. Tell us about your lighting as I'm always interested in that.

Oldude
12/29/2007, 01:19 PM
drouner .......Sorry for the long story to follow.
Yes I believe Polyp-labs "reef-resh" is along the same lines from what I have heard but I don't really know much about Prodibio. I had a lot of problems this summer when first my skimmer broke (down for 8 weeks) and then our dishwaher drain hose leaked and was dripping through the floor above into the tank for an undertermined amount of time. I lost several corals and what didn't completely brown out, bleached out. My tank is still in recovery but bouncing back nicely. I think if I had not been using the "reef-resh" at the time my tank would have been far worse with a much nastier algae outbreak. After I discovered the DW leak I did seven 15% water changes in 8 days and ran a lot of extra carbon. In the past year there has been one crisis after another so I can't say for sure what benefits are caused by the dosing and what is coincidence. I have a few corals that are still brown so I recently started dosing extra potassium and KZ "sponge power" to help things improve which seems to be working. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
My lighting is an "Aqua Medic" 72" (sexy light) hqi fixture with 5 bulbs. 2x150w 20k & 3x250w 10k "aqualine" bulbs. I also have an "Aqua Medic" 72" T5 fixture with 4x39w Fiji Purple KZ bulbs for extra light supplementation.
I hope I have been able to answer to your satisfaction. Thanks for the interest.

drouner
12/30/2007, 03:52 PM
Greg......That was not along story.

How long have you been dosing KZ "Sponge Power"? From what I've read it takes about 3 weeks to kick in and you need to monitor the Ca after the first week.

I'm current running a Pheonix 14K lamp with FP as well. I'm thinking about switching over to a 10K and keeping the FP and maybe adding a T5 bluer lamp.

Oldude
12/30/2007, 04:14 PM

Incredible tank! Would you mind if I ask you a few questions about it? It is obviously successful so I'm wondering what kind of salt you use? What parameters do you try to keep? How long have you been using polyp lab? Love your tank!
