Unfortunetly i do not have the capability to use RO/DI water. So my nitrates are pretty high. I was wondering what are some other options to lower the nitrate level in my tank. thanks

Macroalgae
Deep Sand Bed
Nitrate Reactor
Lower the bioload in the tank (get rid of some fish)
Get a better skimmer
Feed less
Feed frozen foods--NOT pellets or flakes
Water changes

These are only the OBVIOUS solutions. There might be other solutions, but I'd start with a few of those first.

I agree with KC. Are you running a good skimmer? Unless you are using well water contaminated with nitrate, your water source may not be the problem.

Have you researched a version of the deep sand bed in a 5 gallon bucket? Do a search here (via google) for "bucket deep sand bed". It's inexpensive, and lots of people have had good luck with it.
