View Full Version : How do I keep cr@p from settling behind the rocks with an AGA 125 tank?

Two big issues with this on this tank, the first is the 18" wide footprint. Not much room for aquascaping, so most of the rocks end up against the back wall. Second is the internal overflows that go from top to bottom on the back wall. It's hard to design flow with both of these issues. I built a spraybar driven by a Rio pump, 700 gph, that ran the length of the back of the tank, going around the overflows. The flow was directed away from the back of the tank and away from the overflows. This led to a build up of 'stuff' under the bar, and between the bar and the back of the tank/overflows. Oh, and I'm using a shallow sand bed.

How have others with these types of overflows solved this problem? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!:)

I had the same issue with my 90 gal. Also 18" wide.

I took a Maxi Jet 1200 and set it in the lower left hand corner of the tank and aimed it behind the rocks pointing to the right hand side. It is connected to a Tsunami wave maker so that it is not on all the time.

You would not believe the amount of stuff that came out from behind the rocks! You just want to make sure that you have the screen on the PH so that your smaller fish don't get stuck on it. Also be sure that you can get to it to clean the screen as needed.

Thanks for the replies. Babogart, did you have an overflow to 'get around', as with the AGA 125 gallon reef ready tanks?
