View Full Version : clean it up
Ok so I now seem to be able to keep my parameters correct and my tank is a few months old. My question is I have some brown algea/diatoms that look like christmas trees. I have been pulling them out by hand and it all seems to be dying off now. Is there any decent way to get it all out. I tried syphoning it out when I did a water change but that really did a number on the sand. If I leave it go will it cause significant problems with parameters or will it just stay around as an ugly muck. Any suggestions would be apreciated.
I don't have much of any cleanup crew either just one turbo and two crabs.
Thanks,
Brian

i suggest upping your cleanup crew with some nass. certh snails, and maybe a sandsifting goby to help keep the sandbed stired up and clean.

oh and why is your temp so low? I would raise it to around 78-80 slowly.
i have seen clenup crews for a 180 gallon like mine but I hate to put that much in all at once.
oh and the temp is low because it is a new tank at that is one of the problems that showed up this winter. I am going to need to get the sump off the concrete floor and put some styrofoam under it....Or get a bigger heater

i would say for a 180 gal. I would start with about 50 each of the snails and 2 diamond watchman gobys. and go from there.
BTW the snails are more for the sand and won't go on the rock much.

i would, that is still small for a cleanup crew for that size tank.
