I have a 125gallon all glass aquarium with an oak stand, ive decided that it is time to upgrade my sump mainly to fit my new skimmer. The sump i want to put in is 36" long and 12" deep. I dont think i can slide it in. Im just wondering if anybody has any experience or ideas that i could use? My only thought was i could take one of the sides off and brace it and slide it in quickly, but im not sure thats the best idea. Any help would be very appreciated!

Is the tank running? Im not sure how you would hold the weight once the brace is out. Once you get it out, the difficulty of how hard it would be to fit back in.

Cut a new door in one end, amply bracing it at all points. A triangle can carry weight in a useful way. That's why pyramids are stable and corner braces help stability: any time you can distribute weight down a diagonal, that was otherwise left unsupported, it helps. A post and lintel---two uprights and a long crossbeam---will sag under weight. Add two triangular slanted corner braces and it adds support to the lintel without totally obstructing the passage. See if a well-braced additional door would help get it in.

I cut a larger opening in the front of the stand that my 125 was sitting on. I braced the structure before i did any cutting, In a nutshell All that I really did was enlarge the door opening on one side. I was able to get a 36 in long (38 gallon) tank in the opening.

Try Melev's site. He shows how he did it with a series of photos.

I had the same issue with my 55g. I eventually used a 10g and a trash can, instead of one long sump....
In answer to your post, check out this link:

I didn't do it because I was too worried the results wouldn't be in my favor. Nevertheless, it's an option.

I am adding a 29gal tank as a fuge to my 125. It's 30" but I think I had a few inches of extra room. How open is the back of your stand? I only have a center brace, and 2 end braces on mine, the rest is open. The easiest way for me was to slide the tank through the front doors, then work the tank back and forth, like in a car, where you parrell parked but someone pulled in too close behind you and you have to do a bunch of turns to get out.

Mine is 36" and i dont think i will be able to wiggle it in. My best chance will probably be to remove the center brace.

If you are able to get it in safely. Let us know what you did and post some pics :)

It will help those of us who are contemplating the same thing :hmm2:

I saw that one too, but I don't want to be the one to recommend something that looks like a deathwish!!!!
