I have a 24 aquapod also. I was wondering where you got it at and if any mods are required to make it fit ?? Does the pump fit in the rear chamber easily??
any more pics of setup available??
I have removed the hood and use a 150 watt sunpod as well.
I was waiting on the euro reef nano, but I have no idea when they are coming out.

You can get the skimmers from
www.aquacave.com
www.customaquatics.com
www.thereefstop.com

It works great out of the box, no need to mod them.

Octopus has also released a ER nano KO and its $50 dollars. You can check with David at Coralvue for more information to where you could get the Octopus nano.

custom aquatics has it for $85 right now...pretty good deal, seems like to me.
Does the pump fit in the back of the aquapod without mods???

how is custom aquatics to deal with??? I have never ordered from them.

yes the pump fits with no mods. I am going to add some tubing so that it fits a little better.

How about some updates to how things are going. :D

Custom Aquatics is a good place to deal with but feel I must warn you they are selling some of the knockoff Octopus HOB skimmers. I got one a couple months ago and it looked nothing like ones others are getting. Finally had to return it as would have required too much modding and a new pump to get it to work very well. There is a reason they sell cheaper than anyone else.:(

There are no knock-offs. I wish people would stop stating that. Every single one of the octopus skimmers comes from the same place in China. The only difference is, when they get here, the distributors decide whether or not to modify them. Such as SWC, they're putting Sicce pumps on the new xtreme in sump skimmers. Other than that, they're the exact same thing. Most people will keep the resun pumps on there, etc. I bought my 100F from Custom and it was drop shipped from CoralVue directly, and I have no problems.

Side note, I just put my 100F on my 10g nano for the time being.. a little over kill :D

I beg to differ with you on the statement there are no knockoffs. The skimmer I had was totally different from ones in pics on Coralvue site. Intake/output were on opposite sides, connections and plumbing pipes were totally different(also didn't fit without modding them). Another small thing, the ReefOcto logo was not stamped anywhere on it. My skimmer looked nothing like one in this thread or others I have seen. Contact Coralvue and they can set you straight on subject of no knockoffs! They do exist and that is why you will keep hearing about them. Mine was not shipped directly from Coralvue but directly from CustomAquatics and I definitely think CustomAquatics did not realize there was a difference in the two skimmers. They are a very honest dealer so don't think I am downing them. Just be sure when you order that you are getting the real deal!

I got mine from customs aswell. Mine has the logo and worked great right out of the box. There is no modding needed on these guys. Works great right out of the box. But there are some who have made their own custom surface skimming box and some extra mods to improve it a bit. But they aren't needed though.

Could you take some pictures of the entire tank? I'm interested in picking up this skimmer as well, but would obviously prefer to have it hooked up to the rear chambers of my 24g NC.

TKByrnes

well still no replacement pump yet!! Im getting a little mad about this. I have sent them 3 emails and no response yet. I have been letting the skimmer run for about an hour at a time 2-3 times a day.

SPARTAN VI I will get some pics later.

Who did you talk to? Was it Mark? And it might be because they are still on a holiday break. I hope all goes well. Where did you get yours? For the best customer service I'd get mine from Aquacave. They don't ask questions and send asap. Sorry to hear and hope you gets yours up and running.

best way is to email at

support@coralvue.com

I tried calling when I was having problems w/ mine at first, he doesn't return calls nor really answer the phone, but he was answering emails in about 5 minutes half the time.

I love the Octo skimmer.. I just wanted something more so I built my own over-powered skimmer for my 45g. I've been waiting for Custom Aquatic to get in the new Octo Nano skimmer so I can get my hands on that, I'd feel much better w/ a skimmer in the tank rather than a 12lb (with water) skimmer hanging/sitting back there. I just don't really have any peace of mind, but I wanted to get the water clean since I'm lazy w/ water changes and I'm hoping to get some Rod's Onyx clowns or some solomon percs this week/next week.

I got a aussi black clown. He is so cool. all clowns are really. they have so much personality. he has even became really good buddies with my red coris wrasse. If you want a aussi black pm me and ill send you a link to the place i got mine from. its a lfs to me but he has an online business also.

are those aussie blacks occellaris like the one i have in my avatar? or are they true percs?

How is it performing? I plan on setting up an AP 24g and don't know what skimmer to get. I don't want something big and bulky though. Is it neatly tucked behind the tank? Can we get some FTS with it in it?

TKByrnes

dzeadow.... It is a true aussi black like the one in your avatar. The lfs that I deal with has just about everything you can think of from australia. Im wondering if I get a regular occellaris if they would pair up? anyone ever tried that?

I will get you a full tank shot in a few minutes. everything is tucked behind the tank. the skimmer sticks above the tank but it is still behind my sunpod halide fixture so you dont really notice it.

Nice FTS yeah email is the best way to get ahold of David. For those that are skeptical to where you should buy it I recommend you order from AquaCave, so far they haven't sent people the SWC versions of the skimmer like the ones above mentioned. Customs seems to have both but they are slightly cheaper and if you want cheap you can take a gamble and hope that you score the real deal. The other one looks like the octo but with a different pump and different plumbing it didn't seem to pleasing the ones who got the bad one. The bh100 is great for your tank since you can hide the pump in the back chamber, as for the bh100f its great if you don't want a pump dangling around and don't have a back chamber to hide it like the above.

Hm what does having that silencer on that T pipe do?

keeps the gurgling water flow sound down. and when you remove it the water level in the skimmer goes up I believe. Its been on there so long now I forget if the water level goes up or down.

dzeadow
01/05/2008, 11:26 AM
interesting. I did a similar thing w/ a pvc plug, but I drilled a hole in it to keep the water level where it was supposed to be. I believe it goes down when you take that out. I had mine on there with no hole and it kept creeping up on me, which made me feel a little unsteady. Of course I had a bag of carbon in my return also which displaced enough water to get it higher to the top of the skimmer and freak me out a little more.

Thats interesting to know I never knew that, what does having the water lvl go up do? Does it affect how the skimmer skims?

I haven't really noticed if it skimms better or not. I know It gets alot louder when that is removed

I never thought of that, but I can't put that thing on top anyways. My canopies in the way.

TKByrnes
01/08/2008, 07:48 PM
well I got my new pump and holy microbubbles!!!! I forget how long it took the other pump to settle down.

If you remove that plug it the water level rises in the skimmer.

Just to let everyone know I hooked up a piece of vinyl tube to the skimmer pump running to the pvc that goes in the skimmer to allow the pump to sit on the bottom of the rear chamber. It makes the fitment alot better.

G-Force123
01/19/2008, 11:35 PM
what size of vinyl tubing was it? my pump is wedged between the walls of the ap24g and buzzes like crazy! also had it for about 8 hours and no skinmate to speak of...not even tea color. in fact, the bubbles doesn't even touch the top part of the collector cup tube. also any updates would be appreciated.
