I have a flame angel who is showing signs of ich. I wanted to know if there is a product that i can dose my tank with, without affecting the life cycle or corals in my reef. I read all about the suggestion to quarantine the fish (which i will but i want to also treat the tank).

Can ich hurt corals?

No in-reef effective treatment is known to exist at this time. Only option is to pull all fish and place in QT, leaving the reef fishless for 6 weeks (that will eliminate all Crypt living in your system as they will no longer have host fish to complete their life cycle).

Also, Ich only attacks fish...nothing else.

I should also mention that Hyposalinity is the best method to treat your fish while in QT.

BTY, there are some great stickys in this forum on the life cycle of Ich and the best treatments. If you haven't read them already I highly recommend it!

Will do thanks!

I have a 10 gallon tank setup but in it lies a peacock mantis shrimp. If i used that tank would the ich infect the mantis? Would the treatment be harmful to the mantis?

Ich will not host on any inverts...only fish. The Hyposalinity treatment kills all inverts (Ich, coral, shrimp, etc. etc.). Hyposalinity is safe for fish if done properly and very effective.

For a QT tank you should use a bare bottom (no sand), use cut up PVC pipes or fittings for fish shelters and hiding spots. Use an air pump with air stone to add extra oxygen to the water along with a good hang on the tank or canister filter. Walmart sells "kits" from 10gal to 55gal that have everything you need (tank/light/filter/heater) and they are VERY reasonably priced. I use the 55gal kit myself for QT.
