I'm trying to decide on an in sump skimmer for my 75 gallon mixed reef/medium bioload. It will be sitting in a 20 gallon long aquarium. I was thinking about the Octopus Extreme, but I don't think its an in sump skimmer. I don't want to pay more than $325 either... There are just so many choices out there.... I'm ready to upgrade from my Berlin skimmer. :D

The octo extreme IS an in sump skimmer, that s the only way you can run it. (the swc octo extreme)

Oh ok, I was looking at the Octo Premium Extreme at premium aquatics. The one at Marine Solutions is in sump. So is the Octopus the way to go?

Well if you got the octo 160 from marinesolutions your talking a 6.5" 23" tall with a large diamter neck that pushes around 45-50scfh. For 275bux. The das ex1 is nice but its at 17scfh and 285bux. Right now all gears tell me the octo extreme's are the way to go, unless you get a coravue octo extreme. Only the swc's.

An ER RS-80 or RS-100 would be good options for a tank that size.

So what would be better, a Euro Reef RS or an Octo Extreme? I just can't decide...

I cant see anything pulling 22 LPM for 275 bucks except the Extreme octo. Its a no brainer.

So will this skimmer pretty much pull constant skimmate? Is it adjustable? Any negatives about this skimmer that you guys know of? Sorry for all the questions, I just wanna make sure this is definitely the one. Will the Extreme 160 support a medium/heavy bioload in a 75g reef?

There just geting ready to release the first batch. No one has them yet. But if they pull 50scfh like they say they do then it will support much more than a 75g tank. Much much more.

It is my understanding that 8lpm/hr per gallon of water is enough to support a heavy bio load. So 22x60= 1320 lpm/hr Divided by 75 = 17.6lph/gallon It should work AWESOME.

About the only negative I can think of is that nobody knows what this skimmer can or cant do. Advertising claims are one thing but real world data is another and for now this skimmer doesn't have any. If everyone went solely off of what the manufacturer claims then the Seaclone100 would be a perfect fit for our 75's....
If your not in big hurry why not hold off on the Octo until some more data is available? If you absolutely need a skimmer now then I'de say go with something thats been proven to work.

Well, that statement has both truth and untruth to it. Yes teh skimmer isn't out yet, but the design is better than the ati and the pump's are proven at over 22lpm and under 35w, so its a pretty safe bet, and all will be put to sleep after they are in.....i'd have to say a week after xmas! lol

Sorry I cannot be of some help with the Octo or comparing the two but I have a 75 gallon mixed and feed a LOT. I have a an older model Euroreef ( CS6-1 with a Sedra 3500 needlewheel pump ) which I believe is comparable to the newer RS-100 models. I could not be happier with the Euroreef CS6-1 on my 75. I skim pretty wet and it still pulls a very dark skimmate. I get a full collection cup every 6 days or so. If I wait a week to clean and empty the skimmer it would overflow.

Solid construction and good performance IME. The Octo may still perform better, I do not know, but I have no complaints with the Euroreef I use.

I have a 72 Gal bowfront and use a Euro-Reef RS-100. After getting it dialed in, it works like a champ!

I have the same size tank w/ an Octopus re-circ 110 skimmer. Very happy and a huge improvement over the Berlin skimmer I previously ran.

Sounds like I'll be going with the Octo Extreme 160. I'll wait until it comes out though for reviews. My sump is a 20 gallon long, think it will have any size issues? Will it run in 6" of water? The tallest skimmer I could fit under my tank would have to be 20" - 23" max.
