I was in a lfs today that is in my area, and saw that they had an octopus in a hampster ball floating in one of their tanks. I did not know that you could get them legally. I took a couple cell phone pics if anyone wants to see it. I was just wondering if anyone has had one, or knows if it is legal for stores to have them.

What area of MD do you live in, I'd like to see it if it isn't too far...

There are no restrictions on keeping octopi. They arent that uncommon really. They certainly arent the easiest things to care for, but for a well educated hobbiest, they can very interesting pets.

It was a store in dover, not sure if I am allowed to say the name or not. They also have a fair selection of fish, but all on central filtration. If it is ok to say the name and where I will say.

I always read that their life span is 1 year. Otherwise I'd be interested in keeping one.

They seem awesome. When I went into JF once the emplyoee caught me checking him out and took him out of the jar and let it play with his finger. They're amazing animals and I would love one but I dont have the experience for one

I saw it in dover de. It was at "the fish bowl" the lady said it was not for sale, that it was for a friend, and that one of them had died already.

Yeah I just looked into them because I have a 30g sitting empty and a ton of spare skimmers and what not. I dont like there short life span or the fact that the tank has to be totally sealed

Yep, they're not that uncommon in the hobby (and not illegal). in fact, we have an entire forum for them. :D

Actually, they aren't that tough. You just have to octo-proof your tank (closing off all small openings), and realize that the smaller varieties really have pretty short lifespans.
