Hi all,

I know that people dose kalk becuase it's a great two part solution in 1. I've also read that Kalk is not the best option for raising Ca and Alk together becuase it will take too much to accomplish this task.

My question then is this... Hypothetically, if there is a tank with nothing but live rock and you dose kalk could it do harm? Since you apparently can't REALLY increase Ca and Alk with just Kalk... Where does it go?

I know you're adding Ca and Alk to the tank but...

Thanks,
Ben

You can increase ca and alk with limewater, depends completely upon the demand in the tank, it will be used up by coraline algea in a tank with no coral. So it is not dangerous if you monitor the levels so they do not get too high. Hope this helps.

Dosing limewater can eventually raise calcium and alkalinity, as noted. It can also spike the pH. Usually, though, I agree that it's safe to dose as long as the tank is monitored.
