I need a new skimmer. My current one has a pump that doesn't start up half of the time, and then it puts off so many bubbles when it does start up. What in-sump skimmer is the best for what its worth?

there are alot brands out in the market. but if you whant a good quality for your monwu you may go with H&S, I have a DELTEC on my own and I love it. but many people think is overprice, I have a 55g too and my AP600 from DELTEC skimmes like a champ.

An Octopus NW-150 is what I use on my 55g and love it. I used to have an ASM, but decided to try the Octopus when they started to become popular. I am very impressed with these systems, for the money they are top notch. If you want something on the high-end, then ATI, H&S and Deltec are all good brands as well. I can personally testify to the quality of H&S and Deltec (I love my Deltec too).

my .02 worth...

I 2nd the Octopus. I have a NW-200 and it works great. It is well built and does not cost an arm and a leg.

hands down, h&s. get the one with the aquabee2000 (rated for 120-180gal). Deltecs are really nice but I like the way they mod the impellar better in the h&s. The only problem is that it's about 30" tall.

If you want the best price, then octo, then i'd go with the ER RS80, then das ex1......H&S and Deltec are just silly answers to me unless you want to pay a ton for a skimmer. There are tons of skimmers out there under 250bux that will handle a 55g, there's no need to spend over that.
