took my centre brace off my sump. Can I leave it off? With all those baffles in there I figured it would be fine, but want to double check. It's a 105g 72x20x17

A little late now. But I would say you are fine as long as you don't fill it up to the top.

It will be 3/4 full. I had originaly planned to put 1 or 2 smaller braces in instead of 1 big one. But once I took it off, I wanted to keep it all off. Is it to risky? I thought all those braces would act like a brace.

I cam e across a 55g for free, but with the center brace missing. I passed, even for use with a fuge. It's there for a reason.

I have read about people who removed the center brace and replaced it with their own euro-bracing.

I have had a 55 full with no brace on it. OF course this was NOT on purpose and in 5 days it was fixed.

Id say go for it, if you see some bending i would rethink it.

at 3/4 full with all those baffles i woudn't even think twice about it. especially if those are glass baffles siliconed in. just my two cents.

NOT TO DIVERT THIS thread but any size tank can be a sump? so a 33 gallon long (at 36") could be split into three sections with a pretty large refuge in the middle? ... does the fuge then need a little powerhead to keep the water moving? ... just a few questions i neve worked with DIY sumps ...

Yah my sump was a tank at one time. but was converted to a sump with glass baffles. There's a total of 10 baffles in there, so I figured that's like having 10 top braces. And if you have a refugium in your sump, you shouldn't need an extra pump, depending on where you place it.
