folks,

I have tens of brittle stars born every day in my tank, everywhere I see a starfish, these are tiny ones and they clog the suction chamber and they collect in the filter bag through which the water is returned to the sump, same thing with the bristle worms, they are everywhere they are growing big, none of these are hamring my corals or other fish though

is it a healthy sign that I have 100s of brittle starts in my tank or should I start controlling the population of these?

thanks

vevika

you only need a couple--harvest them and offer them for sale--they are a very good member of a reef crew.

They are eating something. A healthy population is good, but too many might indicate you are overfeeding.

Some wrasses should eat the brittle stars and bristle worms.

Do watch your feeding: they're thriving on something. They love your tank, but there wouldn't be so many if there weren't extra food for them. Start cutting back a little and see if that helps.

Buy some Harlequin shrimp. They are beautiful but will only eat starfish.
