How do you take that picture so close..

Not too bad for handheld macro shots. :) Images are not too noisy either and relatively sharp. Did you use a flash with these shots?

I used flash with the first two cleaner shrimp pix.. The rest I played with exposure, aperture, and shutter speed on manual setting. Yea most of those shots were with ISO 100 and 200. I'm going to be a self-man tripod if I keep shooting like this. Any suggestions on GOOD tripods? I'm only steady until past aperture setting of f/9... I'd like to get more depth of field on some pix.

I'm actually on quite a budget right now... I got a workstation in progress I got to build also. But any suggestions for future references always helps lol. I was leaning towards the carbon tripods... maybe gitzo or some sort.

if you only intend to use the tripod indoors, while shooting the fish tank.......get a cheap one from bestbuy or something. any ole tripod will do for just shooting your fish tank.

then just save up the money for something more serious when you get more serious about photography and traveling and such.

the only reason you need a tripod is if you are shooting a slow shutter speed which would probably get you a lot of blurred pictures if the fish are moving. So the key to sharp pictures using a small aperture and a fast shutter speed. Now on corals you could go slower as long as the umps are off so there is no water movement. As far as tripods if you plan on using it for other things as well you can get a bogen which are not too expensive but are quality tripods

The tripod thing was an inside joke for all my buddies on here(you know who you are). I know what a tripod is for and how a camera works. It was more like a pass on message to the ones who keep telling me to get a tripod and I still dont have one. Btw too small of an aperture and you lose alot of depth of field on the fish sometimes too so it all depends on the situation. There is no KEY to anything except experimenting to find whats suitable for the subject you are focusing on. Bogens arent bad actually, but I think Im gonna end up getting a gitzo at the end. Thanks alot for the replies though guys. Lets stay on subject now haha.

Easy now. We're just friendly passionate hobbyists here.

The majority of your pictures are very crisp and rather brilliant on my monitor. The second to last one looks like what I would expect, and the last picture was a tad soft or dull.

That being said, you did amazingly well without a tripod. I rarely use on myself, but that is because my camera allows me to press the lens to the glass to keep it steady.

So how did you get such close pictures? It was asked but you didn't answer. Let's hear you secret. ;)
