I have a 75g reef with 5 fish, sm (2in) blue tang, true percula clown, 2 firefish, lawnmower blenny. The last fish addition was over a month ago and all fish have been eating well, growing and generally looking healthy. Ive had no aggression problems and the perc and the tang hang out together almost inseparably.

Yesterday morning before the lights came on I was looking at the tank with a flashlight and when I lit the tang he was faded to his sleeping colors and a half dozen or so ich spots showed on him. I had not seen any ich on any of the fish prior to this. Today he has a lot more spots on him, visible with lights on. As Im typing this I have water mixing in my qt/hospital tank (29g) to move him to.

Should I treat with copper or hypo?
The tang and clown will be easy to catch while asleep tonight. Should I disasseble the whole tank to get out the firefish and blenny, or wait to see if they show any spots first?
If I wait and they show spots later Id then have to basically start over on the timing of the treatment.

I have seacure copper and a copper test kit and I have treated with copper before (many years ago when i was in hobby before) but if hypo is just as effective Id rather try it first.
Theraputic levels cu .18-.20 ?
Hypo at 1.010 ?

Sorry for all the basic questions, its been 8 years since Ive had to deal with sick fish and Ive not caught up to all the changes since then at least as far as what options are better.

If it is just the physical appearance of ich without the labored breathing, lethargy, lack of eating...you could try hypo first. Anything where you are noticing a complete demise and I would suggest better living through chemistry!

I do not bother with hypo, but I understand that a gradual decrease in salinity is what you would want.
