I was at the local pet store today and i saw this fish. It was a great price and i knew he would be perfect for my 150G that i am converting to a reef. Dose anyone know what kind of fish this is?

You know, looking at it, the genus Cepola comes to mind - don't know why, I must have seen it in a book somewhere, I've certainly never seen one in real life<grin>.

Not really familiar with that fish, but it looks like it might be a species of Pseudoplesiops (think of it kind of like a cross between a dottyback and marine betta...). The group as a whole is fairly small fish, associated with coral heads on the reef. Range from Northern Australia to parts of the Philippines. Pretty cool looking.

I think they changed the genus name for the fish I was thinking of - try this: Acanthocepola indica. If that's it, I have kept (or tried to keep) related fish and they did not do well - they burrow in mud/silt, not something that is available in most home aquariums.

You got it Hemdal its deff a Acanthocepola indica He already has a pre dug hole he lives in now and it's in the front so i can always see him which is sweet. Here's a updated pic of him swimming out of his hole. That is his hole directly beneath in in the rock which go's into the sand. My sand bed is about 8" deep.

They are coming in from Sri Lanka...they call them Prehistoric Jawfish. I'll have to look at the order sheet to get the scientific name but we got in a few at the store I work at. 2 died in shipping and one jumped and one was eaten by a carpet! so sadly none made it.

Bret61081 : Yea that's what they sold it to me as at the wholesaler but i knew it was a made up name from the collecting point. Sux to hear they didn't make it. I am going to keep a log about him just like i did for the golden heart trigger and the short big eye (when i had them i was one of the first and there was no info then as well) ,
