Hello all, last night I fragged a colt coral, I used super glue and everything seemed fine. although he bent over(maybe from the current). There are realy know "Low flow" areas of my tank just medium to high, he's in medium. I am wondering should I turn one of my power heads off for a few days. If you can see it looks like its breaking or splitting, whats happening? Pic where takin before lights came on.

I wouldn't use superglue on a colt... Just use an elastic on them until they attach. Its likely a reaction to the glue.

I would cut it a new base and use a rubberband to reattach. IMO.

Two recommendations come to mind. One, use a rubberband (not too tight) instead of the super glue. Softies are notoriously poor candidates for the super glue method because the issue does not adhere like a hard coral skeleton. It often takes a week or more for the soft coral to reattach. Second, place the frag in a deli container in your tank. It will protect the frag from being blown off or drifting. For smaller frags I use little 2 oz plastic containers--the ones you might expect to see salad dressing in at restaurants.

Hope this helps. The frag looks fine, by the way. Best of luck.

well it hasent even been 24 hours yet, so do I let it be for now, b/c technically it is attached, the glue worked on the base(when I cut it off the original rock it had a somewhat tough base, which made the glue stick easy.

Wait and see what happens. Soft corals often don't attach well with superglue alone, as they may shed their outer layer, which is what the glue is attached to. If this does happen, the only harm is the frag will float free. You could try gluing a small piece or two of LR to the plug and have the LR touching the base of the colt as well. That way, the colt may attach to the LR on it's own.

However, since you said the colt had a hard base, I'd advise just waiting and see what happens first, before pulling it out of the tank again and messing with it.

the best way to attach a colt coral to a rock is to stick a plastic tooth pick through the coral towards the bottom (about 1/4" from the bottom) then glue the tooth pick on both side down to a piece of rock. this is the best, safest, and a easy way to get a colt coral to stick to rock
