St. Thomas diving

Anyone been there and have suggestions on a good outfit to dive with? My wife has a business trip there in Feb. so I'm going to tag along and do as much diving as I can. Never been to the Carribean. So any info would be great.

Probably not much help, but I did some diving in St. Thomas with the Royal Caribbean cruise line. We went to a small island cove and did a wreck dive at about 40-50 feet. It was a lot of fun... :)

Take a look at Blue Island Divers. I can't tell you how the diving was, unfortunately, but I was impressed with their customer service. I had a dive trip scheduled with them on a cruise in December. We ran into that late tropical storm and had to divert to San Juan instead. I was very happy with their communication and understanding. they might be worth a look, anyway.

I'll have to check my dive log for the reef locations but St. Thomas has some very nice diving. You'll love it!!

I go to St. Thomas just about every winter break except for this year, unfortunately. I've only been diving once so I cannot really tell you how it compares with other diving outfits. I've done a ton of snorkeling, however. If you want to check out more untouched places I would recommend a day trip to St. Johns. If you want to try and find some sea turtles caneel bay on St. Johns is pretty good and there are a few elkhorn coral heads there.

I lived there for 2 1/2 years and still work there - there two weeks a month. I have been diving in St. Thomas for 12 years. My recommendation is to go with Admiralty Dive Center, talk to Dwayne. His number is Phone: (888) 900-DIVE or (340) 777-9802. Tell him "Savas" referred you and see if he will cut you a deal. I dive with them all the time and the dives are always interesting and well managed. They are the best outfit I have found on the island and they do some great wreck dives. Coki Point Dive Club is also a nice dive and inexpensive - it is a beach dive. I am down there the second and fourth weeks, so maybe we can dive together.

Two other thoughs on this: Sapphire Beach Resort has a great beach for snorkeling. It is worth spending a day there just snorkeling their reefs. I have seen small sharks and giant grouper come into the reef by the marina.

If you dive with Admiralty, rent their equipment. It is $10 for all your dives and saves you the hassle of lugging your gear. Plus they use very nice (current model) equipment.

Thanks for all the info. I went ahead an signed up with Admiralty Dive Center. As far as equipment, are they pretty flexible? I have a Suunto Cobra computer I'd like to use, but it would have to be threaded into one of their regulators it's air integrated.

Dwayne is a good guy and I am sure he will hook up your computer for you. I will stop by the shop if I am there. I work days, but do some night dives during the week.

If our paths do overlap, I'm looking to do a night dive. I spoke with Dwayne about it, he said it would depend upon interest. I think he said he would need at least 4 divers to take the boat out. I'm hoping it works out. I've never done a night dive on a reef before, unless you count snorkeling over my reef tank in my living room. LOL I think it would be awesome.

not sure about st thomas but st john if you want to make the day trip is nice.... watermelon kay or something is very nice a ways to find
