Anyone have one used locally? Time to take care of the algae once and for all!

Until you get one just put some media in a filter sock . Place it near your return. Its better then nothing.

Good idea. What's the good media to use these days?

Kent- Can be baked in the oven and reused 3 times

Roa phos is also good.

Stix,
I had a lot of luck with putting roa phos in a filter sock. By far my hair algae problem diminished when I added my skimmer. No just to get rid of the last of the valonia.

What kind of algae are you fighting?

hair & bubble. I need to grab a filter sock on the way home from work today...I found some old Rowa in storage.

Does rowa help with bubble algae? I've been fighting a battle with it for quite a while. I had given up on it but I'm now determined, like you, to get rid of it....

Do you know what stores have a filter sock with the tank mount locally? I need to get one too.

I hope the valonia didn't come from my tank.

Guy I am sure it didn't come from you! It's weird...it only grows facing the back of the tank!

Hair algae??

If everyone is attempting to get rid of algae just be careful. Go slow. if you have po4 and remove it all at once you can stress your corals.

A little hair. my main problem is this bright green "turf" algae that comes off when blasted with a turkey baster. I also took about half the Chaeto out of the fuge. It was packed in there so tight that it was cutting down the flow and the nutrient export. Shame no one lives close to me...must have been a solid gallon zip lock bag of it in the trash!

Stix,
Usually it only grows facing the back of the tank to make it more of a pain in the *** to get to.

Next time your looking to get rid of a little chaeto, let me know...I pruned mine a little to hard last time, now it's all gone.

stix I just had one sent from that pet place 35.00 prety cheep but I need a second still.
I just finished killing the hair algae this week. I shut the lights off for 3 days, only ran the VHO's on the forth day, Added a lawnmower blenny and used API's Algaefix and installed my reactor with Rowa Phos. Hair algae gone in less than a week.

enemec1, why do you need a second? More capacity, or a separate tank?

I was looking at something like that to run as a carbon reactor. Think it would work?

MinibowMatt

Wow! You added algae fix! You are extremely daring!
I hope it has no lasting problems... I know I could never bring myself to adding a chemical like that.. whether they say its safe or not....

MinibowMatt

All you really need is a PVC tube with two endcaps.. one glued, one threaded.. drill and glue a fitting on both ends, fill with media and add a little filter floss to stop the media from clogging the fittings...

FishTri I want a second for carbon.
MinibowMatt, I was skepitacal at first also, I did only use one dose. and I did not see any ill effects to any fish or corals.
