I need to get some powerheads for my 100 gallon tank. I want to get some leather and soft corals and eventually a clam so I need pretty good flow. I have heard that Hydors distribute the flow very well so its hard to notice. How many and which should I get. I was thinking to Hydor Koralia 3 which would be 1700 gph on top of the 500 gph of flow from my filters. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have 2 Hydor Koralia 3's and they only put out 850gph 1700gph for 2. I also have a Hydor Koralia 1. I also have 450 from my return. I have this in my 72g bowfront

Kinda depends on what livestock you want. SPS need more flow. I think at a minimum 2 Koralia #4's would be a start but likely too little for SPS. More flow also will help keep detritus from settling so that it can be pulled out by your skimmer. More flow the better.

So like what about two Hydor 4's and like a Maxi jet 400 or 600.

I am putting 2x Koralia 4 and 1x Koralia 3 in the 75G that i am building. Going to keep some SPS down the road but mostly soft corals I would think. I was being told this might be a little too much for soft corals but just right for SPS.

For softies and leathers, like you mentioned, two K3s or K4s will be just fine. Too much flow and the softies won't like it.

I have two K1s in my 46g. Have tried fiddling around with 2s and 3s as well, but my mushrooms and leathers shrivel up from too much flow. Next step is to try supplementing with a koralia nano for my "sps zone" and see if the softies will tolerate it better.

I have a K3 and a K4 in my 125g (5 foot) tank, and it seems to work fine for soft corals and LPS. There's a little flow from the return, but I don't really count that.

I have two K3's in my 55. IMO it is not enough flow and will be adding 2 K4's in addition to the K3's. I keep Mostly SPS with some LPS and zoanthids mixed in.
