Hey i just started this 12g ap after seeing one at the LFS and i just had to get one so far i am pretty happy my only issue is that there is a grinding noise when i start the fan sometimes but it goes a way i have a feeling it is a cavatation issue but not sure. If you guys know why please tell me.

I had an AP12 running for almost 2 years with the stock setup the only thing i added was phosban. i put it in the same chamber as the pump. in fact i just closed mine down and moved that pump over to my 30 for more flow. As for the noise mine did it as well and i found that a light tap on top of the fan normally shut it up. lol. Love the setup cant wait to see more pics

No i don't think that i am but well see the one at the LFS did not have anything as far as mods and his was great had lots of corals... he even had a sail fin in there but i don't know i have been toying with the idea of turning it into a refugium. I definitely want to do something about lights but not sure we will have to see what the gas prices are going to do. At my age gas is number one priority.

I'm getting my watchman goby and pistol shrimp either tomorrow or the next day so i will definitely be posting some more pics.

Yah i have noticed that if i lift the hood and then turn the fan on its seems fine so its either a wire or there is condensation causing the blades to be all unbalanced.

Yah i think mine is just an issue of a loose wire i think this weekend might be the time for that project.

So my sacrificial green chromis died last night and i thought that the tank had cycled so im hestitant to get my goby and pistol shrimp. I did top off the tank with a little bit of water that i had left from when i originally filled the tank a week ago. Is it bad to use saltwater that has been sitting.

you should be topping off with fresh water

my salt levels were low so i was instructed to top off with salt that way i could raise my salt level.

cool update. can't wait to see your new duo in action!

you can add salt water slowly if you're SG is low but definitely use fresh (RO/DI preferably) for your ATO.

Mr. Buck: Pls watch out for those Bio Balls. They could be a Nitrate producer if not cleaned regularly.

The LFS has employees each day cleaning and maintaining the tanks. If you're able to stay home and maintain your tank, GOD bless you. If you're in the working class, they could cause a problem down the road.

Just an FYI. Good luck on your set-up.

Looks good!
As far as the fan; my buddies AP12G and my AP12G both had noisy fans. We went to a local computer store and got a 60mmX60mm case fans. Made a big difference. The only hurdle is either getting a fan with a 2-pin connector or soldering the old connector to the new fan. Make sure to check the fans dB when buying. Anything over 26db can be annoying...

ok thats sounds good ill check that out... i think there is another slot for another fan and mine gets a little hot so i might try and put two in.
