Hey Randy,

A topic came up in the New to the Hobby forum and I wanted to get your thoughts on this. If one were to use a Nitrate or Phosphate test kit designed for saltwater to test for these in fresh tap water, would the results be inaccurate?

Maybe Habib or Boomer can give better answers than I can, but I'd expect both tests to be basically OK for that purpose.

Thanks Randy.

Habib, Boomer what are your thoughts?

George,

Habib, Boomer what are your thoughts?

Boomer's thoughts are probably with the lost boron analyses I guess.:D

I think that it should generally be OK.
There are, however, always some excpetions and had quite recently a pretty weird one with a competing product even in marine water.

Hope this helps.:)

It appears this will only die when I'm planted firmly in the ground......on second thought you may still bring it up:D

My thoughts are Habib usually knows what he is talking about. :eek2: I haven't looked at all the kits (any kit) for SW or FW but some have adjustments for seawater, eg; some Ammonia kits have a buffer added to them when used in seawater, if I remember correctly. I don't think you will have a problem

Wow Habib, you reserected a 3 1/2 year old thread.

Actually since you brought it back up, the AP Po4 and PH kits do have 2 color charts. One for fresh and one for salt. They are slighty different hues of color.
